Mayfield to address spring graduates at MSU-Meridian
MERIDIAN, Miss.—The executive director of the Mississippi Community College Board will be the spring 2017 graduation speaker for Mississippi State University-Meridian.
Andrea Mayfield will deliver the May 5 commencement address at the 11 a.m. public program at the MSU Riley Center for Performing Arts and Education.
More than 120 students are candidates for degrees from MSU-Meridian.
A Livingston, Alabama, native, Mayfield was named executive director of the community college board in December 2015 and has more than 21 years of experience in the Mississippi community college system.
In 2011, she received the University of West Alabama’s Alumni Achievement Award and was inducted as a member of the Golden Key Honor Society in 2015. Mississippi State University recognized her in February 2016 as Alumnus of the year for the College of Education.
Mayfield’s service as an education leader has included membership to the Board of Trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. She sits on the board of directors for Mississippi Public Broadcasting, State Health Insurance Board, Mississippi College Savings Board, State Workforce Investment Board, State Longitudinal Data System, Innovate Mississippi and Education Achievement Council. She also is a member of Mississippi State’s Education Leadership Advisory Committee.
Mayfield and her husband, George, reside in Pelahatchie and have three children and four grandchildren.
