Local resident receives 2015 Spirit of State award
MERIDIAN, Miss.—A lifelong resident of Meridian, Adrian Cross embodies the spirit of Mississippi State University and exemplifies outstanding leadership in her role as treasurer of the Student Association at MSU-Meridian.
Cross was recognized as MSU-Meridian’s 2015 Spirit of State Award recipient at a ceremony held recently on the Starkville campus. The award recognizes students who demonstrate an exceptional personal commitment to enhancing student life at Mississippi State.
A graduate student in the Masters of Arts in Teaching Community College Education, Cross was nominated by Marilyn James, student services manager at MSU-Meridian.
James noted Cross’ “wonderful positive spirit that is an inspiration to her fellow classmates, Student Association officers and the university as a whole.”
Although Cross works full-time as a recruiter for Meridian Community College, James noted she still has found time to be involved in the Student Association at MSU-Meridian as an officer and a member of the planning committee for student events and activities. A member of the university’s Kappa Delta Pi honor society, she also helped the Student Association with their Coats for Kids drive, canned food drive for Love’s Kitchen, and local Alzheimer’s fundraisers.
“As a recruiter for non-traditional students at MCC, Adrian takes joy in her job assisting them with decisions about their education,” said James. “And as a non-traditional student at MSU-Meridian she understands the role that the university also plays in helping students achieve their dreams.”
Cross earned her undergraduate degree in health education from Mississippi University for Women and is scheduled to graduate from MSU-Meridian in May of this year.
