Dr. James L. Shumate holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California. With over 40 years in the mental health field, Dr. Shumate has extensive knowledge and experience in clinical counseling, behavioral health treatment, and counselor education. Throughout his career, Dr. Shumate has held many diverse roles in both clinical settings and academia. Dr. Shumate specializes in psychological assessment, complex case management, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and fostering the development of mental health professionals. His experience in outpatient, inpatient, and private practice settings with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families providing psychotherapy, counseling, and psychological testing has provided him with unique insights into the challenges faced by various age groups and in various treatment settings. Dr. Shumate’s treatment approach is integrative, drawing from various evidence-based techniques and rooted in psychodynamic therapy. He is also trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Dr. Shumate creates a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore their challenges and work towards meaningful change. His therapeutic approach with clients is collaborative, accepting, and engaging while offering flexibility in his methods based on each individual’s unique needs and circumstances. 

Kortney Green, LPC-S, NCC, CCMHC, CMHT holds a Master of Science in Counselor Education with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mississippi State University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Qualified Supervisor in the state of Mississippi, a nationally certified counselor, a nationally certified clinical mental health counselor, and a state certified mental health therapist. 

With over 10 years in the field of mental health, Kortney’s experience allows her to effectively treat a wide range of mental health challenges, including but not limited to: Severe mental illness, anxiety, mood instability/disorders, depression, psychosis, trauma, emotional dysregulation, self-harm, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders. While she works with clients of all ages, from children to adults, her primary focus is on helping adults navigate their mental health journey.

Kortney’s therapeutic approach is ingrained with authenticity, empathy, compassion, and support with a keen focus on empowering those she works with to achieve a healthy, balanced, and enhanced quality of life. She understands that each person's path to healing is unique, which is why she employs an integrative approach tailored towards each person’s specific needs. 

Kortney’s treatment methods emphasize psychodynamic therapy, attachment-based therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and trauma-informed care. She also incorporates a variety of evidence-based techniques to ensure that each client receives the most effective, personalized treatment.

Sarah Beth Cooper, LPC, NCC, holds a Master of Science in Counselor Education with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mississippi State University. She is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Mississippi and a nationally certified counselor.

As a trauma-informed and trauma-trained therapist, Sarah Beth specializes in addressing the deep-rooted effects of trauma on mental health. She has experience counseling clients facing trauma-related disorders such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as co-occurring challenges including anxiety, depression, stress management, self-esteem, emotional regulation, interpersonal conflicts, self-harm, and life transitions. While Sarah Beth works with children, adolescents, and adults, she specializes in helping children.

Sarah Beth’s approach is rooted in creating a genuine, empathetic, nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship with each client. She draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities, with an emphasis on person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Her counseling style is both eclectic and holistic, integrating evidence-based techniques tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
